Make Bets That Have A Chance Of Actually Winning
I know this tip may sound a bit silly on the surface, but as a former casino executive, I can tell you that there are tons of roulette players out there that make bets that are essentially impossible to win. The dealer will call for bets and get that little white ball spinning and for whatever reason, that causes some players to panic and start firing out random bets all over the place.
Don’t be one of those players!
I can’t tell you how many times I have seen players cover basically the entire layout with bets. Yeah, they are nearly certain to win when they have so much action, but when you add up the math, it can be very hard for these bets to show a profit.
Have you ever heard the saying, too much of a good thing, isn’t a good thing? Well, that certainly rings true with roulette bets, as you don’t want to bet too much, as with how the wheel is structured, you won’t ever be able to win enough to make up for all of the losing bets you have placed.
When black hits, that means red doesn’t. When the first dozen hits, that means the other two dozens don’t. It can be a lot of fun to win on most spins, but if your “wins” end up with you losing money on a spin, then you need to pay more attention to where you are placing your wagers.
If you are on red, don’t be on black too. If you are on odd, stay away from even.
I know this sounds like an overly simplistic piece of advice, but so many players that are new to roulette will make so many bets that they don’t even realize that they are betting against themselves all over the layout. If you place a chip between two numbers on the layout, you win if either number hits. Now, the payout won’t be as high, but you have doubled your chances of winning, which is never a bad thing if you ask me.
If you make your bet in a corner, you now have 4 different numbers that you are rooting for and when they hit, the payout of 8-1 is still quite attractive.
All of these bets have the same house advantage, as they pay true odds minus the zeros on the wheel, but for a new player, being able to consistently win bets is going to keep you in action long enough to really get comfortable at the table. If the only bets you make are on single numbers, the math says that you could go a long time between wins and that can be discouraging for new players.

Columns And Dozens Are Great Bets
We just talked about how betting splits and corners is a great way to up your win rate at the roulette table and this next tip is going to take that one step further.
The columns and dozens bets are essentially the same bet, as you are betting 12 numbers at once.
The difference is that the dozens bets go by their actual numerical value and the columns bets go by how they are laid out of the wheel.
A bet on the first column would be a bet on 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, and 34 and pays out 2-1 odds when it hits. A bet on the first dozen is a bet on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 and also pays out 2-1 when it comes in.
Whether or not you choose to bet the dozens or the columns is really just a personal preference. Some players like to clock the wheel and try to guess in what section it might land on with a column bet, whereas others just like to bet the dozens so they can make a statement like anything 12 and under and I win.
One strategy that I have used to make a ton of money playing roulette is playing 2 of the 3 dozens or columns at the same time.
This is a super low variance approach that results in a winner well over half of the time. Let’s quickly break down the math on this betting strategy below.
Betting Multiple Dozens Or Columns
If you were to bet $100 each on the first and second dozen, you would have a total wager of $200. If the bet hits, you win one bet at 2-1 and lose the other. That results in a profit of 1 betting unit, in this case, $100.
While getting a payback of just 50% of your total wager isn’t ever going to blow your hair back, when you see how often you are going to win, it might change your mind on this type of bet.
Your win rate will be contingent on how many zero slots the wheel you are playing on has, but if you are playing on a single zero roulette wheel, a bet on two of the dozens will hit approximately 65% of the time!
This concept is similar to the last one we talked about when betting splits and corners in that the math says these bets are the same in the long run. But if all you are betting is a single number, you are going to win less than 3% of the time. I don’t know about you, but if you ask me, winning 65% of the time is a heck of a lot better than winning 3% of the time!
Yeah, the long run math says that this isn’t a better bet, but in order to reach that long run you would have to play millions of spins, and none of us are ever going to come close to that, no matter how much roulette you play.
Stay Away From Triple Zero Roulette
Over the course of the last couple of decades, casinos realized that the majority of players out there didn’t understand roulette at a deep enough level to have any clue how much worse a double zero roulette game is than a single zero game.
That concept led to many casinos pulling their single zero roulette games off of the floor and replacing them with double zero roulette games.
That was painful for players in the know, and nowadays, double zero roulette games are the norm as single zero games are generally reserved only for high limit pits. Casinos are using that same concept to now start adding triple zero roulette games to the floor, and we have seen the number of triple zero games skyrocket post-COVID.
While casual players might not see this as a big deal, I am here to tell you that this is absolutely a big deal!
All casino games operate on what is known in the industry as the house advantage. This is the mathematical advantage that is built into each of these games to ensure that the house always wins.
The jump from single zero roulette to double zero roulette basically doubled the house advantage. But the house advantage for the single zero game was so low, that even when you doubled it, it was still a decently player-friendly game.
That just isn’t the case with the tripe zero games, as adding that third zero turns the game into one of the worst games in the casino for players!
If you are going to play triple zero roulette:
You might as well buy a lottery ticket instead, as you are going to lose your money. Casinos are being sneaky about how they add these triple zero games to the floor and even with their recent expansion, nearly every casino that has a triple zero game will also have a double zero game as well.
If you find yourself at a triple zero game, ask the dealer where you can find a double zero game instead and move on to a new table. Even with a small sample size of play, you are going to feel the difference in your win rate at the triple zero tables and you need to avoid the game at all costs.
Don’t Fall In Love With The Reader Board
This final tip on how to win at roulette is aimed at any player that has ever looked up at the roulette reader board and said to themselves something along the lines of, I see that red has hit 5 times in a row, that means that black is due!
This is known as the gambler’s fallacy, and it can cost you a lot of money at the roulette table! The casino tracks the spins for the express purpose of trying to trick you into making bad decisions based on previous spins and you have to make sure that you don’t fall into that trap.
That’s not to say that sweating the reader board can’t be a fun addition to the game, but if you are finding yourself making strategy decisions based on what the board says.
Just know that you are being manipulated into poor play by the casino.
Leave the reader board bets to the tourists and instead focus on making some of these plays we talked about above that are tried and true ways to win at roulette!
