2022 MTV Video Music Awards Betting Odds and Predictions

MTV Video Music Awards Aug 28

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) are set to be held this coming Sunday night, August 28 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey (MTV, 8 ET/8 PT). The show will be preceded by the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show (MTV, 6:30 ET/PT) and airs on many Cable networks including MTV2, MTV Classic, VH1, BET, BET Her, Logo, CW Network, TVLand, Comedy Central, CMT, Pop, and on Paramount.

The annual awards show from the premiere cable Music Television (MTV) network honors the best Videos on MTV and will be hosted by Jack Harlow, Niki Minaj, and Rap legend LL Cool J. Minaj will be bestowed the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard awards this year.

American Rock band and proud Los Angeles natives, the Red Hot Chili Peppers — the creators of hits like Otherside, Californication, Under The Bridge, and Give It Away —will also be honored during the evening’s festivities on Sunday with the Global Icon Award.

Please Note:

The three scheduled performers on the 2022 Music Video Awards Pre-Show will be Dove Cameron, Saucy Santana (“Booty”) and Young Gravy. The scheduled list of performers for the 2022 VMAs Main Show now includes Anitta, J Balvin, Blackpink, Kane Brown, Jack Harlow, Khalid and Marshmello, Lizzo, Måneskin, Nikki Minaj, Panic! at the Disco, and the aforementioned Red Hot Chili Peppers. Minaj will be performing a Video Vanguard medley while the RHCP (Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante) will be performing a medley of their hits.

The 2019 VMAs were also held in the Garden State from a Town Hall, and the 2021 VMAs were held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn—home of the NBA’s Nets—so the Newark, NJ and the Prudential Center venue is a breath of fresh East Coast air.

Online oddsmakers at the Top Entertainment Betting Sites have MTV Music Awards Awards Odds posted in the five major award categories at BetUS including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and the big Video of the Year.

Here are the betting numbers for those five categories for the 2022 MTV Music Awards, and as you see, it could be a big night for Harry Styles who is the prohibitive Favorite in the Artist of the Year category and also the betting Favorite in the Video of the Year category.

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards Odds looks like it could end up being a big night for Harry Styles, but betting on the 28-year-old member of One Direction at -400 to win 2022 MTV VMA Artist of the Year seems like an expensive endeavor at 1/4 odds.

But backing the second favorite, Bad Bunny at 4/1 odds in the market seems just as nuts in the MTV Music Awards Odds Futures at BetUS, so looking for another market with a better price seems like the most logical online betting approach in the MTV Music Awards.

The opportunity to back Englishman Styles in another MTV Music Awards Odds wager, the Video of the Year (-115), seems like a less expensive option, although American Taylor Swift will provide tough competition in that high-profile category.

Styles’ song “As It Was” is the slight Favorite over Swift’s 10-minute version of “All Too Well,” which is currently priced at Even money (+100) so it would be a surprise if one of these two songs didn’t win the VMA Video of the Year Moon Man on Sunday evening in Jersey.

The talented Styles has won a Grammy, an American Music Award (AMA). two Brit Awards, and an Ivor Novello Award and can add to his legacy by winning both the 2022 Artist of the Year as well as the 2022 Video of the Year if all goes right for him on Sunday.

The competition will certainly be stiff. In the Best Collaboration category, the song “Stay” by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber is the prohibitive betting Favorite at -200 followed by “INDUSTRY BABY” by Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow at +175 at the sportsbook BetUS.

I see no reason to bet against the betting favorite. Stay with the option that oddsmakers have pegged to win this award.

My pick for the best bet in these markets is for Latto to win the Best New Artist VMA at -170 on Sunday over second odds Favorite over the Italian Glam Rock Band Måneskin (+425), who finished in 2nd place in the 11th season of the Italian X-Factor in 2017.

Alyssa Michelle Stephens originally appeared on the TV series The Rap Game in 1996 (as Miss Mulatto) and she won the series that season but the 23-year-old native of Columbus, Ohio turned them down eventually.

In 2019:

Latto released her first single, “Bitch from da Soul” and the song debuted in the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #95 in August of 2020, and the now resident of Atlanta later signed with RCA Records and followed with “Wuwop,” a single featuring Gucci Mane.

Latto had her breakthrough hit in December 2020 with the release of the hit song “Big Energy” (below), the lead single from her 2022 Album titled “777,” and the song went all the way to #3 on the charts—her highest ranking Single to date.

Latto received nominations for Best New Hip Hop Artist at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards and for Top Rap Female Artists at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards and Latto won the 2022 BET Awards Best New artist, so her winning here on Sunday wouldn’t be a surprise.

The mercurial Doja Cat, who hosted the show last year, is again nominated for a VMA, this year in the 2022 VMA Song of the Year Category where she is a longshot at 12/1 odds (+2000) for her song “Woman” off of her third studio album in 2021 “Planet Her.”

Unfortunately, I see Bieber taking this category as well as he and Styles could come away with the most awards.
